Humans of Liberec Part III

With two of my precocious students, sisters Teresa and Bara Balatkovy, I decided to do a photojournalism project in the style of Humans of New York. This is the third installment. We walked around Liberec and Bara interviewed strangers on the street about memorable moments in their lives and Teresa photographed them during the interview. Both sisters helped to translate, edit, and choose their favorite stories to be included in the project we’ve dubbed Humans of Liberec.

What’s been your biggest struggle in life?

“Two of my husbands died and that’s what I’ll take to the grave with me. That was terrible at the time. I just had to get used to it.”

What activity most fulfills you?

“Dancing. Because I love art and music and dancing is a way I can get closer to music and express myself.”

What’s your favorite quote?

“It’s a quote from The Little Prince and it’s: ‘You can’t see the important things because you can see them only with your heart.'”

What activity most fulfills you?

How did you get into swimming?

“Once I accidentally fell into the water and somehow I started swimming.”

What do you want to be when you grow up?

“A dinosaur!”

“A fairy!”

“A policeman!”

What activity fulfills you the most?

“Nothing. I only go to work and the pub.”

What do you regret in your life?

What would you do if you won 1 million Czech crowns?

“I would pay my friends’ bills and then we would drink through all the money.”
